In this course we will sample inorganic materials such as rocks, clay, dirt, sand, silt, and any other inorganic material one can find. Then learn how to apply them in the ceramic process. It is encouraged that students show up with their own found materials before class to experiment with. We will discuss some of the materials at hand and how to test/apply them to the ceramic making process.
For this workshop we will be exploring the use of raw materials for the application of the ceramic process. This is actually a simple intuitive way of working and can be approached as scientifically or artistically as you want.
Suggestions for showing up prepared include the following. Bring your own materials such as: ash from a fireplace, any mud/dirt/ or clay, small sized rocks or sand (screens will be provided to sieve), glass bottles are also really fun. In order to get the best use of these materials try to bring them as dry as possible as it will make working with them easiest.
I will also bring materials for examples and to share.
